The National University of Arts in Bucharest is the largest university in Romania with an artistic profile and a comprehensive institution dedicated to research and artistic creation in the field of visual arts. The University’s major strengths include the quality of its academic staff and of its research and artistic creation activities; its infrastructure and heritage; the number and diversity of study programs offered in the field; a long-standing tradition combined with a culture of innovation and continuous development; its national and international visibility and prestige; the effectiveness of its governance and management activities; its autonomy in defining educational and artistic creation programs; and the high quality of these programs, as confirmed by independent evaluations conducted in recent years. Additional strengths include the strong professional integration and recognition of graduates within the European cultural space, as well as the significant number of publications, exhibitions, and participations in national and international events. Beyond these strengths, the University’s medium- and long-term development directions are shaped by a series of constraints and opportunities arising from the challenges it must address—some specific to contemporary society, others generated by the particularities of the legislative framework and by Romania’s social and economic context. Transformation and change have become fundamental attributes of contemporary society, compelling schools—and universities in particular—to shift their focus from the function of validating and preserving cultural content toward fostering creativity and adaptability among graduates.
