Professor, PhD

The National University of Arts in Bucharest is currently engaged in a process of assimilating a new model of communication. The elements that ensure our viability within this process of transformation include, on the one hand, a well-established tradition and a Western European technical school, and on the other, the Byzantine tradition; the avant-garde elements introduced through students of the stature of Constantin Brâncuși and Victor Brauner; the knowledge transmitted by the great professors of the interwar and postwar periods; and, more broadly, the vision articulated by authentic artists who are graduates of the Bucharest school.

The shift in the communication paradigm requires the academic staff to engage in a continuous process of research and analysis of the contemporary artistic context, both in terms of language and meaning.

Under these circumstances, we hope that the generations of students to come possess the skills, sensitivity, and cultural grounding necessary to support us in this endeavor.

Rector,
Cătălin Bălescu
